Tell us about yourself Amy
I am passionate and determined. I was born and raised in Melrose, MN and moved to Eden Prairie in 1998 shortly after graduating from Bethel University with a B.S in Marketing. In my first job, I worked at a technology company for many years and realized that my passion was helping people.
So, I set out to pursue my MBA in Marketing at the University of Minnesota in hopes of being able to combine the two and find a balance between technology and helping others. However, due to personal experiences, the insurance industry and I crossed paths. This experience helped me understand the need for education about life insurance and financial services.
I embarked on what has been a hard, yet rewarding journey as an insurance agent. Since starting my career as an agent, I do all I can to help families secure what is most important to them. I have been a mentor to many women and hope to continue to inspire those around me to follow their dreams. My team and I are ready to help you with all your needs.
Amy, where is your office located?
Our office is located on Preserve Drive right off of Prairie Center drive in Eden Prairie.
Where did you get the drive to start your own business?
My stepfather was a role model and a strong influence in my life. He taught me about character; he taught me the tough lessons in life that some people learn too late or not at all. In one instance, he taught me the value of standing up for yourself. He advised me that I would have to take the initiative to learn how to handle situations in which people passively exclude me — that I would have to do something that could get their attention. I soon learned to gather a couple of people and start up a card game or another fun activity to direct the focus on the activity instead of clashing personalities. I later realized that through this process, I had learned creative techniques to influence group dynamics.
In another situation, he taught me the value of hard work. After volunteering to do yard work one day, I got tired of the project after mowing the lawn. Hot, sweaty, and tired, I started to leave before the project was done, and he told me I couldn’t leave. After several hours of pulling weeds, watering, weed-whacking, fertilizing, trimming, and preparing flower beds while my father supervised from his comfortable lawn chair in the shade, I had learned that completing only a portion of a project is not acceptable when completion is expected; that there usually is a lot more work that goes on in the background of a finished product; that there will always be someone in that comfortable lawn chair watching others work — and that I wanted to be a supervisor in life. These skills learned at a young age pushed me to be a leader and run my own business.

Now a some questions from our readers:
I’m shopping around for homeowners insurance. How do I know if I’m getting a good deal and that I have enough coverage?
It is a fact that most homes are underinsured. While you’re shopping around, ask those insurance agent questions about what is covered under the policy as well as optional coverages, like flood, fire, etc. Then choose a deductible that’s right for you. The higher the deductible, the lower your premium. A high deductible is fine, but make sure you have the money for out-of-pocket expenses if something should happen.
I run a small home based business selling products on Amazon, do I need additional insurance coverage?
An extremely small business, such as a business operated by one or two people out of a home, may not need workers compensation insurance, but it often needs more property and liability insurance than is provided in a typical homeowners policy.
