Tell us about yourself Peter

As a boy, I grew up in a small fishing village in China. My family was large, with five siblings. My father worked as a shopkeeper’s assistant, drawing a meager salary and my mother was a housewife. From a young age, me and my brothers knew that they needed to get part-time jobs if they wanted to supplement their family income.

As a young boy, I would sell ice cream in a small shop which was not easy for a young Chinese boy. I was the last of my siblings still in school, my brothers had dropped out at a young age

My motto to always do more than one is paid for made me a favoured employee. Before closing the shop each evening, I would make extra effort to prepare the next day’s orders so that I would be able to ensure all the consignments of goods are ready for delivery. This helpful attitude endeared me to my boss who later sponsored tme for further courses.

Eventually I was able to immigrate to the U.S and made my way from New York to Minnesota.  I was working in a small shop in Minneapolis when a friend of mine asked me if I could help out at his insurance agency.

For me, there is no such thing called luck. Luck is actually “preparation plus opportunity”. I made friends with everyone when I was working as a ship keeper because I might need their help in the future. I eventually became a sub-agent under my friend because he gave me the opportunity to do so. I grabbed the chance to be an agent when my friend asked me to join him.

Peter, where is your office located?

Our new office is located in Eden Prairie, just down the street from the Eden Prairie Community Center.

When did you start your own business?

I learned a great deal from working with my friend.  I had saved up enough money that I was able to open my own agency in 2003.  It was a lot of work initially with getting an office up and running, but eventually I was able to start growing my client base to the point where I have several agents working with me now.  Our team is a great group that is able to assist a wide variety of customers with all of their insurance needs.

What makes you stand out from your competitors?

Unfortunately, good customer service is in short supply. Fortunately for our customers, it is not. We provide great customer service.  Our customer service opens up the opportunity to provide clients results that stand out amongst our competitors.

Now a some questions from our readers:

Does all homeowners insurance cover mold?

In some cases homeowners insurance will cover mold and in others it will not. If the mold is a result of a sudden accident, not the result of negligence, it is covered. Mold is a complicated matter when it comes to insurance. For more details on when mold is covered by home insurance and when it is not I suggest you talk with your carrier to understand your coverage.

What if I find out after a rainstorm that my roof is leaking?  Is that covered?

Depending on what is causing the leak, you may be covered. Do you have roof damage? if the roof is more than 20 years old, most insurance companies won’t cover your home at all unless it passes inspection first. It’s not unheard of for a homeowners insurance policy not to be renewed because the roof failed inspection. If your roof is 10 years old and suffers extensive damage after a big storm, however, you will be covered.

What is the best way to get in touch with you if I want to discuss my insurance options?

You can call my office any time and me or one of my agents will be happy to talk with you.
